Sexually Transmitted Infections And STI Treatments

STI Treatments

STI or sexually transmitted infections can be of different types. They can fundamentally be divided into three primary types.

These are the bacterial sexually transmitted infections, the viral sexually transmitted infections, and the parasitic sexually transmitted infections.

All of these sexually transmitted infections can occur during heterosexual or homosexual sex. The bacterial and parasitic sexually transmitted infections can be completely cured.

But not the viral sexually transmitted infections. Nowadays, with the technological and scientific advancements, these infections can easily be treated.

Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infections

Vaginal Yeast Infection and Bacterial Vaginosis are two types of bacterial sexually transmitted infections.

These are caused by the bacteria present in the vagina. Often partners infect each other during sex. But these are not truly sexually transmitted infections.

Bacterial Vaginosis is the more severe one of the two. It can be of different kinds, such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, and others.

These mainly occur in teens or young adults. All of these sexually transmitted infections are treated easily with antibiotics and cured with seven to ten days.

But in case of severe Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, if one is left untreated, it can lead to serious problems such as scarring of uterus and even infertility.

Viral Sexually Transmitted Infections

There are many Viral sexually transmitted infections such as herpes, HPV, hepatitis B, HIV, and others. None of these diseases have any cure and they lead to deaths.

Parasitic Sexually Transmitted Infections

Trichomonas is a parasitic sexually transmitted infection.

Diagnosis

If sexual history or current signs show the symptoms of STI, laboratory tests are done to identify the infection.

Blood tests, urine samples, and fluid samples are taken to diagnose sexually transmitted infections.

STI Treatment

STIs which are caused by the bacteria can be treated very easily. The viral infections cannot be cured, but managed.

The STI Treatment is done with the help of medicines or injections. A list of probable STI treatment is given below.

Treating the sexually transmitted infections by using Antibiotics

Antibiotics can often cure the bacterial and the parasitic sexually transmitted. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Trichomoniasis, and syphilis are easily cured by intaking antibiotics.

In most cases, the doctor treats the chlamydia and Gonorrhea simultaneously as both of these infections occur together.

Once the patient starts taking the antibiotics for sexually transmitted infections, he or she should complete the dosage and follow the restriction as laid down by the doctor. Short and simpler methods are also prescribed.

But this depends on the severity of the infections. Additionally, the patients are asked to not engage in sexual activities until the treatment is complete or the infections are healed.

Treating the sexually transmitted infections by using Antiviral drugs

These drugs help to treat viral sexually transmitted infections. Since these infections are not cured, they are only managed, the patients have to follow more strict routines.

If one follows the suppressive therapy along with an antiviral drug and follows the doctor’s restrictions, the herpes recurrences will not occur. These drug help to reduce the severity of the infection.

But one can still contract the infection from the partner. These antiviral drugs help to the HIV infection within control for years. In spite of that, the virus stays and can be transmitted through sex. But the risk gets reduced.

It is better to start the treatment regarding sexually transmitted infections as early as possible. Also, the medications should be taken, exactly as directed by the doctor.

In today’s time, it is easily possible to lower the count of the virus to negligible and undetectable levels. Those with sexually transmitted infections or those who had suffered from sexually transmitted infections must check quite frequently to stay safe.

Preventive treatment

It is always better to test occasionally for the STIs. If one has STI, then he or she must inform the current or past partners, so that they can get tested.

Precaution is better than cure. It is always safe to use protection during sex to stop contraction of various sexually transmitted infections. Sometimes these infections can be very serious and lead to death or infertility.

Everyone who is sexually active must check STIs once in a while to stay safe. If anyone is diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, they should not wait or hesitate. They should consult the doctor immediately for faster and better results.
